Install and set up Typeless on macOS

Learn how to install and set up Typeless on your Mac.

Download and install

1. Go to the Downloads page and click Download for macOS.
2. Open Typeless.dmg from your Downloads folder.
3. Drag the Typeless icon to the Applications folder.

Launch Typeless

1. From Applications: Click the Apps or Launchpad icon in the Dock, then click the Typeless icon.

2. Using Spotlight: Click the Spotlight icon in the menu bar, enter "Typeless" in the search field, then click the Typeless icon.

3. The first time you open Typeless, your Mac may ask you to confirm. Click Open to continue.

Sign in

You can sign in to Typeless using Google, Apple, or your email address.

If you belong to an organization on the Enterprise plan with SSO enabled, you can also sign in with SSO or may be required to do so.

Grant permissions

Typeless needs two key system permissions to work smoothly on your Mac: Accessibility and Microphone.

1. Enable Accessibility so Typeless can paste text into any text field
   Click Allow to let Typeless insert your spoken words into the active text field. If an Accessibility alert appears, click Open System Settings, then turn on Typeless.

2. Enable Microphone access for voice dictation
   Click Allow in Typeless, then click Allow in the macOS dialog.

Grant permissions manually

If you can't grant permissions from the permission prompts, try the following:

1. Enable Accessibility manually. Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility, then turn on Typeless. If Typeless isn't listed, click the Add button (+), select Typeless from the Applications folder, then click Open.
2. Enable Microphone access manually. Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone, then turn on Typeless. If Typeless isn't listed, return to Typeless and try the permission step again to trigger the macOS dialog.

If macOS asks you to quit and reopen Typeless, click Quit & Reopen, then continue after Typeless reopens.

Test your microphone

Typeless works with any microphone connected to your computer. For the best dictation accuracy, make sure your preferred microphone is selected and working.

Speak naturally to test your microphone：

• If you see the blue bars moving, your microphone is working correctly. Click Continue to finish the test.

• If the blue bars do not move, try the following:

  1. Change to a different microphone. Click No, change microphone and select another available microphone from the list in Typeless.
  2. Check the system settings on your Mac. Go to System Settings → Sound → Input. Make sure your preferred microphone is selected and that the input level increases when you speak.
